Fifteen volunteers organized by One Small House traveled to Clarksdale, Mississippi to help the local Habitat for Humanity build a simple, decent home for Shirley Shields. Our dedicated volunteers came from the East Coast and California and installed vinyl siding, electrical wiring and fiberglass insulation and then built a storage shed (pictured above), keeping the project right on schedule.
Mississippi trails the other 49 states with a median annual family income of $36,000. The Clarksdale area lags with one of $26,000. Although stricken with poverty, our volunteers found Clarksdale rich in culture and its people vibrant and friendly. Our fundraising goal was set at $3,000 but with the help of our generous donors we were able to deliver a check for $5,000 to Clarksdale Habitat and enable them to continue in their effort to eliminate poverty housing. We at One Small House deeply appreciate the generosity and energy of our donors and volunteers. Thanks to all of you that have made this trip possible.
