Who We Are
One Small House is registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of the Lazaro Cardenas community. One Small House's Board of Directors is comprised of local New York City business and community leaders. In addition, a volunteer staff of SUNY Downstate Medical School students and local community members participate in annual service trips to Lazaro Cardenas, a small town just south of Tijuana, Mexico. All One Small House staff and trip participants dedicate their time on a volunteer basis.
What We Do
Each year, a volunteer team travels to the Lazaro Cardenas community to build a simple 16' x 20' house and latrine for family in need. With three rooms and a small loft space, this house provides a simple, yet durable home where the family can prosper. Local labor forms the concrete slab for the house's foundation and local distributors provide all construction materials. Volunteers frame, roof, side, wire, insulate, drywall, paint and landscape the house.
All skill levels welcome and needed!
